A new feature discovered in Spotify's code, called "Taste Profile Notes," could allow users to give direct text feedback to correct and guide their music recommendations. This would address a common frustration where temporary listening habits, like a breakup playlist, can permanently skew suggested music.
The feature, found in an unreleased Android app version, includes prompts like "I've been listening to a lot of..." for users to explain their current tastes. Users would be able to add, edit, and delete these notes, with each note influencing their personal Taste Profile—the system behind Discover Weekly and Wrapped.
Currently, users can only exclude unwanted tracks or playlists, a defensive move. Notes would be the first proactive tool for shaping recommendations. While not officially announced, this move aligns with the trend of customizable AI, similar to giving instructions to ChatGPT. The same code teardown also hints at expanded emoji reactions for Spotify's messaging feature.
