Forza Silicon, a manufacturer of CMOS sensors for automotive, broadcasting, and medical fields, has developed a new high-speed imaging sensor. The ForzaFAST581 4K sensor supports video capture at up to 1141 fps at 12-bit depth and 1694 fps at 8-bit depth at full resolution.
Designed for industrial imaging and machine vision, the sensor enables capturing fast-moving subjects with high temporal resolution and minimal distortion. Shooting at 1100 fps can turn one second of real-time action into 40 seconds of clear slow-motion video.
The key to this performance is the global shutter design, which activates all pixels simultaneously, eliminating the motion blur associated with rolling shutters. While global shutters were once rare, they are now appearing in commercial cameras, like Sony's A9 III mirrorless model. However, the A9 III's 120 fps capability is far surpassed by the new Forza sensor, which is built for specialized industrial applications.
