Escura Camera, known for the SnapRoll keychain camera, has introduced the LIGAR, a unique digital camera that fires off a digital image every time you take a photo on film. The 12MP, 40g device attaches to any film camera with a hotshoe, synchronizing with the shutter to capture a digital image simultaneously.
The compact, cube-shaped LIGAR can also function as a standalone camera. While it aims to solve the common frustration of film development errors, its market impact is uncertain. The camera offers 12MP stills, 2K 30fps square video, and a 3.2mm f/2.8 lens with a wide-angle adapter and zoom, but it shoots only JPEGs.
Despite its niche utility, the LIGAR may not appeal broadly to serious photographers or social media enthusiasts. It is currently funding on Kickstarter with an early bird price of $125. The device could, however, inspire major manufacturers to add similar hybrid features to future film cameras.
