Google is planning a significant update for its NotebookLM tool, designed to bring order to messy projects and text-heavy notebooks through enhanced visual organization.

A new feature currently in testing will introduce custom banner images for individual notebooks. This will create a distinct visual identity for each notebook, making it easier for users to differentiate between them at a glance instead of navigating through uniformly formatted pages.

The redesign includes a dedicated header area where the notebook title will be displayed over a customizable banner. A "Customize" button will allow users to upload images from their device or cloud storage, giving each notebook a personal touch that reflects its content or purpose.

Additionally, the updated header will show the notebook's creation date and source count, providing better context and helping users track their projects over time. While it's unclear if users can upload any image or use AI-generated visuals, this feature promises to reduce clutter and improve navigation for notes, journals, and diaries.

The update is still in the testing phase and not yet widely available, but it represents a step towards making the AI-powered NotebookLM a more personalized and organized workspace.
