Exploring the Future of Black Flag Resynced

Richard Knight, the project director for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, recently shared insights into the team's ongoing development efforts. In a conversation with content creator JorRaptor, Knight addressed questions regarding the future of the title, specifically focusing on the possibility of a remake for the classic Freedom Cry expansion.

While Knight noted that the development team holds Freedom Cry in high regard, he emphasized that the current priority remains the modernization of the core game. Regarding the potential for new downloadable content, Knight stated: «The reception has been amazing, but it's still so early right now. I know some folks on the team have DLC ideas. We need to balance those out with our future and then updating the core game.»

He further clarified that the narrative focus currently rests on Edward Kenway, describing him as the «heart and soul» of the original experience, leaving the door open for potential future stories centered around the character.

New Game Plus Confirmed

During the same interview, Knight provided a definitive update regarding the highly requested New Game Plus feature. He confirmed that the team is actively developing the mode, though a specific release date remains unavailable.

Knight noted that the implementation process has been aided by previous work done on the Shadows project, which allows the Resynced team to reference an existing framework. «It's one of the first things. Partly because Shadows has already built their version, so it's considered a low-risk feature for us. We're still doing the work, so I can't promise exactly a day or anything, but we're definitely working on this one,» he explained.

Challenges and Additional Rewards

When discussing whether the new mode would include extra rewards, Knight expressed personal interest in the idea, though he noted that production constraints are a major factor. «There's still production discussions about what we can do and how much time it takes. Every item we make needs a model. Sometimes it needs cloth sim. All sorts of things,» he stated.

Despite the technical challenges, the director reassured fans that implementing New Game Plus is currently a top priority for the development team. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is available now for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
