Beta Schedule and Platform Availability

Activision has officially outlined the beta testing timeline for the upcoming installment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Although the full game is slated for an October release, players will have the opportunity to jump into the multiplayer experience two months early.

The beta testing will be split into two distinct periods:

  • Early Access Period (August 21–25): Available exclusively to players who pre-order the title on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox. Notably, Switch 2 users will not participate in this initial phase.
  • Open Beta Period (August 28 – September 1): This public session is open to players on all platforms, including the Switch 2.

Interestingly, the pre-order window has been extended to five days to align with the Call of Duty Next livestream, ensuring that early adopters can start playing immediately without waiting for content creators to gain a headstart.

Exclusion of Game Pass Benefits

A notable change in policy for this release involves Xbox Game Pass. Unlike previous entries such as Black Ops 6 and 7, subscribers will not receive early access to the beta this year. This decision highlights a shift in how new Call of Duty titles are integrated into the subscription service compared to previous years.

Content Expectations and New Features

The beta is designed to offer a comprehensive preview of the final product. According to recent announcements, participants will have the chance to experiment with 19 unique weapons across a variety of combat scenarios. These range from intimate 3v3 skirmishes to large-scale tactical encounters involving heavy armor and tanks.

Among the featured content is the introduction of a new, experimental map called Kill Block. The developers describe the map as follows:

“Kill Block is a modular multiplayer map made for both small and medium-sized modes. The map is divided into chunks that dynamically swap between rounds.”

While the dynamic map rotation is an experimental feature, early playtests have shown promise, with reports noting instances where the map structure briefly mirrored classic layouts from the franchise's history.
