Recent Growth Metrics

Spotify recently shared strong performance indicators for the first quarter of 2026, announcing that its monthly active users (MAU) increased by 12% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 761 million. Alex Norström, the company’s co-CEO, highlighted the platform's success in achieving subscriber growth targets and maintaining high engagement levels across both new and existing user segments.

According to Norström, the implementation of a more personalized free-tier experience has successfully increased listener activity in major regions such as the United States. He expressed optimism regarding the company's trajectory, citing low churn rates and consistent improvements in revenue margins.

Current Technical Difficulties

Despite these positive business metrics, a significant portion of the user base encountered technical roadblocks on Tuesday morning. Reports on service-tracking platforms like DownDetector surged, with thousands of users noting issues with streaming and app connectivity. Social media channels, particularly X, were flooded with reports from listeners unable to access their libraries or play music.

It appears the service failure is not universal, as access remains intermittent. Some users have reported seamless functionality, while others have been locked out of their accounts entirely. The disturbances were first noted around 7 a.m. ET and have become increasingly prevalent throughout the morning.

Official Response and Troubleshooting

The company acknowledged the reports via its dedicated customer support social media channel, recommending standard troubleshooting steps. In a statement to affected users, the support team advised: «A quick reinstall should fix most common technical issues. If that doesn't do the trick, make sure your phone's software is up to date.»

However, these recommendations have met with limited success, as several users confirmed that the errors persisted even after performing a full reinstallation of the application.
