Bruce Nesmith, lead designer on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has expressed skepticism about Bethesda adapting The Elder Scrolls into a television series, despite the success of the Fallout show. In an interview, Nesmith explained that while the Fallout TV series provides valuable marketing and notoriety, direct financial returns from licensing are insignificant compared to the billions earned from games like Skyrim.

Nesmith questioned whether The Elder Scrolls 6 even needs such marketing. He also suggested the fantasy setting, with its elves and dragons, might not stand out in a crowded media landscape already featuring properties like The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. In contrast, he highlighted Fallout's unique post-apocalyptic premise as inherently better suited for television.

However, the article counters that a TV adaptation could be made to delight the franchise's dedicated fanbase, who continue to play the games years after release. It also argues that audience appetite for fantasy remains strong, and a well-made series could still find great success.
