Following Microsoft's recent wide-reaching restructuring at Xbox, which resulted in significant layoffs across various studios, speculation about the future and composition of Obsidian Entertainment has intensified. Amidst rumors regarding a potential new Fallout project, some community members have argued that the studio is a shell of its former self, suggesting that the original talent behind titles like Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II has departed.

Brandon Adler, a game director at Obsidian, took to LinkedIn to address these claims directly. He characterized the narrative that the studio has lost its essence as a form of misinformation, noting that such statements are often made by individuals who lack insight into the studio's actual internal structure and history.


The Consistency of Core Leadership

Adler emphasized that the core leadership team remains largely unchanged, providing a direct link between the company's past successes and its current endeavors:

«The number of times I've seen people, with no understanding of who has worked on our previous games or what they contributed, talk about how Obsidian isn't who they used to be... is staggering. The through line from KotOR2 to our current games is pretty clear.»

While acknowledging that any long-standing organization naturally evolves over time, Adler maintained that the creative "DNA" at Obsidian remains intact. He credited this shared philosophy for the development of iconic titles including Neverwinter Nights 2 and The Stick of Truth.
