Huawei has officially unveiled the Watch D3, a device that stands out in the crowded smartwatch market due to its unique health-monitoring capabilities. While many wearables attempt to mimic the aesthetic of an Apple Watch, the D3 integrates a sophisticated feature that most competitors currently lack: the ability to perform direct blood pressure measurements using an internal inflatable airbag embedded within the watch strap.

Unlike Apple’s approach, which utilizes optical sensors to identify potential hypertension patterns, the Huawei Watch D3 functions similarly to a traditional medical cuff. It compresses the wrist to accurately determine both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Because this system requires specific hardware integration, it gives Huawei a distinct edge that would likely force a major design overhaul for other tech giants to replicate.

Refined Design and Portability

Huawei has successfully transitioned the technology toward a more consumer-friendly, non-medical look. The D3 shares design DNA with the company’s conventional Watch Fit series, effectively masking its complex internal components. Despite the inclusion of an integrated pump, the device remains relatively slim, measuring 11.3mm in thickness and weighing only 40g—a notable improvement over previous versions.

The company has introduced a new positioning system that pairs GPS data with accelerometer and gyroscope readings to maintain accuracy when satellite signals are obstructed by tunnels or dense forest cover.

For winter sports enthusiasts, the GT 7 offers maps for over 3,000 ski resorts and can track specific metrics like turn count and G-force. Meanwhile, cyclists benefit from new features such as gradient tracking and sharp-turn alerts. The GT 7 series also introduces a 'Physical Readiness' score, synthesizing data like heart rate variability (HRV) and sleep patterns to gauge recovery.

The Watch GT 7 starts at £280, with the Pro variant priced at £380, both available for order now. The medically focused Watch D3 is priced at £400 and is scheduled for release on September 23.
