New Raid Content in Erenshor

For fans of old-school MMORPGs reminiscent of EverQuest, Erenshor offers a unique proposition: the classic massively multiplayer experience reimagined for a solo player. In this simulated world, all other 'players' are AI-driven NPCs known as simplayers, with whom you can form parties and guilds. This social structure becomes even more critical following the game's latest update.


The Planar March patch, which went live last Monday, introduced raids to the game. According to the solo developer, Brian of Burgee Media, this update marks the most significant milestone for the project since its initial launch.


The Challenge of Development

Implementing cooperative endgame content as a solo developer proved to be a daunting task. Describing the process in a recent blog post, the developer noted:

«When I promised raids I had no idea how the heck I was going to implement it. It sort of hung over my head like an intimidating shadow until I finally dove into it. With the help of the amazing community of testers, all of your feedback, and a few really late nights, it's here!»

Raid Features and Mechanics

The update brings a substantial amount of new content, including:

  • Four distinct raid zones designed for challenging encounters.
  • 21 new bosses to defeat.
  • Enhanced guild menu tools to form and organize raid parties efficiently.

The system is designed for convenience; raid teams are formed through the guild interface and join instances automatically. This removes the logistical hurdles often associated with traditional MMO raids, such as scheduling conflicts or waiting for teammates to repair gear.

While the convenience of a solo experience is a major draw, the game aims to maintain the punishing difficulty and grand scale synonymous with the pre-World of Warcraft era. By focusing on the core grind and challenging mechanics rather than the social coordination of human groups, Erenshor provides an accessible yet rigorous journey for players. The game has clearly resonated with its audience, currently boasting a "very positive" rating on Steam with 94% of users recommending the title.
