YouTube has responded to user feedback by adding two highly requested features to its Premium Lite subscription plan. As of February 24, subscribers now have access to background play and offline downloads.
These additions address long-standing frustrations with the budget-friendly tier, which previously felt limited despite offering an ad-free viewing experience for most content. The lack of background play meant videos stopped when users switched apps, while no downloads hindered viewing in areas with poor connectivity.
It's important to note that music videos and YouTube Music content remain exclusive to the full Premium subscription. The update is rolling out now and will reach all Premium Lite markets in the coming weeks.
