Seamless Connectivity for Global Travelers

The rise of eSIM technology has simplified how we manage mobile connectivity, offering users the flexibility to switch networks instantly without the need for physical cards. Recognizing this trend, Opera has integrated eSIM functionality directly into its Android browser, enhancing the utility of the app for users on the move.

To mark the launch, the browser is offering a complimentary 3GB data package, valid for three days, to users in select regions. This initiative aims to streamline the process of getting connected while abroad, removing the typical friction associated with acquiring local data plans.

Key Features and Compatibility

To utilize this feature, users must have an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked smartphone running Android 10 or later. By partnering with Holiday.com, Opera facilitates this service without requiring users to input credit card information or even an email address. This offer is currently available to residents of the US, UK, Germany, France, Canada, UAE, Brazil, Norway, Sweden, Poland, and the Netherlands.

The 3GB allowance is applicable across 47 international destinations, ranging from major European hubs to countries like Australia, Thailand, and South Korea. This data-only solution runs alongside a user’s existing SIM, ensuring that essential apps such as WhatsApp and Google Maps remain functional via cellular data.

Expanding Options and Ease of Setup

For those requiring extended coverage, Opera provides options to purchase additional data plans through the Holiday.com infrastructure, which covers over 150 countries. According to the company, these plans—available in 3GB, 5GB, and 10GB tiers—are competitively priced, often costing significantly less than standard roaming alternatives.

The installation process is designed for simplicity:

  • Navigate to the profile icon within the Opera Android app.
  • Select the "eSIM" option.
  • Follow the prompts to claim the data and select your destination country.

Once set up, the eSIM integrates into the device’s system settings, allowing it to be used across all applications, not just the Opera browser. Initial testing indicates that connection speeds are robust, providing a reliable alternative for international roaming that bypasses the need for complex registration or immediate financial commitment.
