Nintendo has officially announced the tenth generation of Pokémon games, titled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. The titles were revealed during the Pokémon Presents livestream celebrating the franchise's 30th anniversary and are scheduled for a joint release in 2027 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The games promise a vast open-world experience set across a chain of windswept islands and ocean. The trailer showcased diverse environments including jungles, swamps, lava caves, coral reefs, and a futuristic resort, with underwater exploration highlighted as a key feature. Visually, it appears to be the most polished Pokémon title to date.

Three new starter Pokémon were introduced: the Grass-type bird Browt, the Fire-type dog Pombon, and the Water-type gecko Gecqua. The reveal also featured two special Pikachu variants, Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu.

Fan reaction has been mixed. Some praise the graphics and extended development time, while others criticize the starter designs and express concerns about textures reminiscent of previous games. This announcement marks the first major new generation since Pokémon Scarlet and Violet launched four years ago.
