Google is launching a new feature for Google Docs called Audio Summaries, powered by its Gemini AI. This tool creates a concise, spoken overview of a document, allowing users to listen to the key points like a mini-podcast. It's designed for long documents such as reports, manuals, or meeting minutes.
The feature is accessible on the web version of Google Docs under Tools > Audio. After scanning the document, Gemini generates a natural-sounding audio summary with playback controls. Users can adjust the speed and choose different voice styles.
However, Audio Summaries are not free; they are currently available only for paid Workspace and Enterprise plans, as well as certain AI add-ons. While useful for multitasking and accessibility, users should note that summaries may omit some details.
