A New Design Direction for CMF

For the first time, CMF—the sister brand of Nothing—has ventured into the portable speaker space. Staying true to the company’s reputation for unconventional aesthetics, the new lineup features two models with a playful, milk carton-inspired design. Available in bright orange, turquoise, and white, these speakers prioritize both style and modularity, allowing users to swap out cover plates and control knobs between units.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The product range includes the compact Speaker S ($59) and the larger Speaker M ($109). Despite their accessible pricing, both devices come packed with robust specifications:

  • Audio Components: The Speaker S utilizes a 45mm full-range driver paired with dual passive radiators for enhanced bass. The larger Speaker M features a more complex setup, including a 10W tweeter, dual drivers, and a 25W woofer.
  • Connectivity: Both models are equipped with Bluetooth 6.0 and support convenient pairing protocols like NFC, Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair.
  • Durability and Battery: Each unit boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and offers up to 18 hours of playback.
  • Versatility: The USB-C ports on these devices serve a dual purpose: charging and acting as a wired audio input.

Advanced Pairing and Customization

A standout feature at this price point is the ability to pair two devices of the same model together for a wider soundstage. Furthermore, the speakers support Auracast technology, which is rapidly becoming an industry standard. While the speakers do not include a USB-C cable in the box, their performance remains surprisingly rich for their form factor.

Reflecting the design philosophy seen in some Teenage Engineering products, CMF plans to release official design files. This will allow enthusiasts to 3D print their own custom handles and accessories. As noted by the original source, these speakers are currently available through Nothing's official retail channels.
