Major Upgrades for the Apple TV Platform
After years of anticipation, Apple has officially refreshed its flagship streaming device, the Apple TV 4K. While the aesthetic remains largely unchanged from its predecessor, the internal components have received a substantial overhaul, positioning the device as a more capable smart home hub and entertainment powerhouse.
Enhanced Processing Power
At the heart of the new model lies the A19 chip—the same processor found in the iPhone 17. Apple promises that this upgrade results in a 50% increase in CPU performance and a twofold improvement in GPU speeds. This added horsepower is designed primarily to accommodate the new Siri AI integration, allowing for more advanced voice interactions and smarter device management.
Improved Connectivity and Audio
Technical refinements continue with the addition of an AV1 decoder, which optimizes video streaming, allowing for higher quality playback while consuming less bandwidth. For audio enthusiasts, the new generation allows users to pair up to four HomePod or HomePod mini 2 speakers, creating a customized surround sound environment that automatically calibrates to the room's acoustics.
Siri and Remote Enhancements
The device now features three integrated far-field microphones, enabling hands-free voice control without the need to interact with the physical remote. Regarding the remote itself, Apple has finally added Find My support. It now includes an internal speaker, allowing users to trigger a sound to locate it if it goes missing.
Expanded Smart Home Functionality
The updated Apple TV 4K acts as a significantly more robust hub for the modern smart home. Users can now monitor video feeds from compatible security cameras and smart doorbells directly on their television screen, even enabling direct two-way communication with visitors.
Pricing and Availability
Despite the technological leaps, the device comes with a higher price tag. The new unit is priced at $299 (£299), which is a notable increase compared to the previous high-end model. As Apple notes regarding the product's broader utility:
«Considering it is more than a mere TV streaming device this time, that might be a price you're willing to pay.»
Pre-orders are currently open, with the official shipping date set for November 13, 2026.
